Welcome to Mathematics University’s elementary mathbook adoption blog. With taxpayers’ concerns about foolish and wasteful spending, this site was created to help alleviate some of the waste. School districts have been evaluating mathematics textbooks and deciding on the series based on pertinence to standards, research, costs, and a variety of other things. The internet has added a lot of fuel to the fire of distaste for some products.
This blog was created be me, Matthew McManus, with the intentions of being open about all math series. I do love some of the textbooks and have seen them give successful results in classrooms all across the U.S.. However, just because the series worked in the educational environment I witnessed, doesn’t mean that it is best suited for your district.
Through proper postings ( backed with sources and schools districts names listed) we can all find the information we need to make educated decisions regarding which series will work best. My intentions are to provide as many links for each of the programs. I will be supplying the news stories sent to me regardless of them being of a positive or negative nature.
I used to work for a publisher and I no longer do. I am not being paid by any company or district to make this a viable tool. My opinions on products are based on my own experiences. If I know of results or if companies provide me with some results , I will share those.
I will not allow the stories about ‘ A Parent in Washington Hates the Math” to make their way on the board. Now if they supply the grade level and the school so we can all go and monitor the state test scores, that will definitely make it on the blog.
NO MORE ANONYMOUS POLITICAL POSTS! MAKE YOUR PUBLISHING MONEY ELSEWHERE!
Thanks
Matt McManus
